This review first covered the 1/8 ARRMA Talion 6S EXB with AVC (ARA8707). Horizon Hobby now lists that truck, and the earlier 1/8 Talion 6S BLX (ARA106048), as discontinued. The Talion has since returned as a larger 1/7 Talion 6S EXB RTR (ARA7707V6); Horizon says it came back “after more than two years away” but gives no launch date, so we don’t call it a 2026 release. This update compares all three using Horizon Hobby product pages and the ARRMA manuals (linked in Sources). We have not run our own speed or durability tests, so every number comes from Horizon or ARRMA.
Prices change often, so we do not list them. Each product mentioned has a “Check current price” link.
Quick answer: The current Talion is the 1/7 Talion 6S EXB (ARA7707V6). It has a longer 411mm wheelbase, a Firma 150A Smart V2 ESC with B5.12 firmware, a 2050Kv motor with a heatsink and fan, and an SLT3 radio with 50% and 75% throttle limiting. Horizon rates it at 75+ mph. The battery and charger are sold separately; it runs on 4S or 6S, from one pack or two.

Sources: Horizon Hobby spec tabs, “In the Box” lists and descriptions for ARA106048, ARA8707 and ARA7707V6. Horizon’s spec tab for ARA8707 says “7076-T6”; its description says 7075 T6, which we use here. Horizon lists 11.64 lb for the 1/7 model, while the manual lists 5.2kg / 11.46 lb.
What Changed in the 1/7 Talion
- Bigger and longer: 1/7 scale with a 411mm (16.18 in) wheelbase versus 378mm on the 1/8 trucks. Horizon says the longer platform is more stable at high speed (Horizon Hobby).
- Electronics: a Firma 150A Smart V2 ESC with B5.12 firmware, which Horizon says is shared with the Kraton and Notorious V6, plus an ARRMA heatsink and cooling fan on the 2050Kv motor.
- Radio: an SLT3 transmitter with 50% and 75% throttle limiting and an SR315 dual-protocol receiver. Horizon’s page and the manual do not mention AVC, which the 1/8 EXB had.
- Chassis and drivetrain: anodized aluminum front and rear bulkheads, EXB aluminum shock towers, split tower-to-tower center braces, a one-piece wing mount, a rear stainless steel skid plate, stronger diff outdrives and steel driveshafts.
- Gearing in the box: a 15T pinion is installed and an optional 23T speed pinion is included.
How Fast Is the Talion 6S?
Horizon rates the 1/7 Talion 6S EXB at 75+ mph and the 1/8 versions at 70+ mph. The 1/7 manual’s speed table, using the stock 15T/50T gearing and Spektrum 5000mAh 100C packs, lists these speeds (ARA7707V6 manual):
| Battery | 50% throttle limit | 75% throttle limit | 100% |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4S (14.8V) | 25+ mph | 30+ mph | 35+ mph |
| 6S (22.2V) | 40+ mph | 45+ mph | 50+ mph |
The manual does not list a speed for the 23T speed pinion. ARRMA says its speeds assume the stock body, normal suspension and ride height, RTR wheels and tires, and no extra cooling.
Is it the “fastest off-road RC car”? We no longer make that claim. Among the ARRMA 6S and 8S off-road RTR pages we checked on Horizon (Kraton 6S V6 65+, Typhon 6S 70+, Notorious 6S 65+, Mojave 6S 60+, Kraton 8S EXB 50+ mph), the 1/7 Talion’s 75+ mph is the highest rating. We did not compare other brands.
Batteries and Charging
- Pack options (1/7 manual): two 2S or two 3S hardcase packs, or one 4S or one 6S hardcase pack, with EC5 or IC5 connectors. Input is 14.8 to 22.2V (4S or 6S). ARRMA lists 5000mAh 50C as the minimum and 5000mAh 100C as recommended (manual).
- Single-pack setup: the kit includes an IC5 battery loop wire. With one 4S or 6S pack, connect the loop to the ESC’s other battery connector.
- Tray size: 158 x 48 x 70mm maximum. Check pack dimensions before you buy.
- Charger and bag: Horizon lists a charger and a charging bag as needed. It pairs the truck with Spektrum Smart chargers such as the S2200 G2 2x200W, S2100 G2 and S1100 G2, and Powerstage 6S bundles with two 3S 5000mAh packs.
- LiPo care: Horizon’s LiPo guide says to store packs at about 3.8V per cell and never discharge below 3.0V per cell under load (LiPo guide).
Maintenance From the Manual
- Every few runs, check that the tires are still glued to the wheels and re-glue where needed.
- Check often for loose or missing screws, and use thread lock on screws that go into metal.
- Remove the wheels occasionally and clear debris wrapped behind the wheel hex.
- After 10 to 15 runs, remove the motor and put a couple of drops of lightweight oil on both shaft bearings.
- Check the gear mesh and clean grit from the spur gear teeth.
- Shocks wear faster in dirty, dusty conditions; replace oil and seals as needed.
- Check the front, rear and center differentials every 10 to 15 runs and top up the diff oil. Outdrives can wear around the driveshaft pin area and need replacing when they do.
- After wet runs, dry the vehicle, spray metal parts with a water-displacing light oil (not the motor), and never use a pressure washer.
Pros and Cons
Pros (from the specs, not our testing):
- Horizon’s highest top-speed rating among the ARRMA 6S/8S off-road RTRs we checked (75+ mph).
- Longer 411mm wheelbase than the 1/8 Talion.
- Throttle limiting at 50% or 75% for learning.
- Runs on 4S or 6S, from one pack or two.
- Optional 23T speed pinion included.
Cons:
- Battery, charger and charging bag are sold separately.
- No AVC listed on the 1/7 version, unlike the 1/8 EXB.
- The 1/8 Talions are discontinued, and parts may not match the 1/7. Check the part numbers in your manual.
- Horizon’s 75+ mph rating is far above the manual’s 50+ mph table speed on stock gearing.
Should You Buy the Talion 6S?
Buy the 1/7 Talion 6S EXB if you want an ARRMA built mainly for top speed on open ground and are ready to buy 4S or 6S packs and a charger. Use the throttle limiter and 4S while learning; the manual’s table puts 4S at 25+ to 35+ mph. If you own a 1/8 Talion, the 1/7 is a different-size platform, not a drop-in update.
